Judge not.
Every single major religion and ancient writing of wisdom teaches us, implores us not to judge. “Judge not lest you be judged”, “judge not for you know not what battles others are fighting”, “Love all men and judge no man”, etc etc.
Judgement is for the Gods, not for man.
Why is it soooo very important that we do not judge, though? What gives? What’s wrong with a little liberal applying of OUR perspective and circumstances to someone else and then being critical of their actions when looking through that particular lens – OUR lens?
Let’s take a look at the story of Judas.
If you’re not familiar with it, Judas was one of the chosen 12, one of the apostles of the Christians’ Jesus Christ, who gave up Jesus Christ to the Romans with a kiss in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Christ was then tortured and crucified. For centuries, ‘the Church’ has vilified Judas – he’s a snake, a betrayer, the lowest of the low, etc etc. Children are taught to hate Judas as much as they hate ‘the Devil’.
Now that you’re up to speed, let’s look at the Judas story another way, reframe it, see through a different lens, look at the big picture….see it from God’s divine point of view, maybe?
Tweet this!: That kiss from Judas is THE single MOST important happening in the Christian belief system, after the birth of Christ.“
WHAT???!!!!
I’ll say it again: Judas kissing Jesus Christ and therefore giving him up to the Romans is one of THE MOST important moments in Christianity.
Before you try to figure out what my location is, come find me and hurt me for heresy, let’s take a long, deep, non emotional look at it:
Jesus Christ came to earth to die. John 3:16 says so clearly: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son . . .” It was ONLY through dying and then rising again, could Christians have everlasting forgiveness of sins and therefore Life. Jesus HAD to die. Which means something significant HAD to happen, to bring on his death. Enter Judas.
Judas faithfully lived his purpose.
He did not try to run at the last minute; he did not commit suicide so as to escape God (we all know that escaping God is impossible, just ask Jonah); he did not flat out refuse to kill this man whom he had so lovingly and committedly followed, no, Judas did what he was put on the earth to do and as a result, ‘the Church’ has a risen saviour.
Let’s take it further. All the talk of Judas being jealous and greedy and so forth are conjecture. You were not there, I certainly was not there, and none of the scholars condemning Judas was there either. Do YOU know for a fact that Judas was greedy or jealous or any of those other things? Really? Or do you rather WANT to believe that?
Jesus knew. Just as he prophesied that Peter would deny him 3 times before the cock crowed, he prophesied that one sitting among them with whom he would break bread, would betray him. Did Jesus try to stop Judas at ANY point? No, because Jesus too, was faithfully living HIS purpose. He KNEW that he HAD to die in order to fulfill his purpose, and he KNEW that Judas HAD to betray him, for Judas to fulfill his.
It was ALL good. God was in charge and God was working his purpose out.
Judas ran his race, saw his Divine purpose through to the end, as did Jesus, and they are both exulted in heaven for having faithfully carried out the painful but world altering tasks which God put before them.
So, I ask:
Tweet this!: Are YOU living YOUR Divine purpose like Judas and Jesus? Are YOU contributing, even with your Life and your reputation, to God’s plan for God’s people?
Or, are you running and spending your time wrongly judging those who are?
